Rip pack net return calculator
Every rip site advertises what a pack might pay. This works out what you actually keep: pick a pack, say how many rips, and choose whether you ship the card or sell it back. The maths runs on the median return from our sampled pulls, so it describes a typical session rather than a lucky one.
Based on the typical rip (median) from our sampled pulls, not the average: the average is carried by rare big hits and is not what a normal session looks like. For reference, the mean-based value over 10 rips would be $33363.07, and most rippers will not see it. Card values are the operator's own where it values its own cards. This is an estimate for entertainment budgeting, not a prediction.
How the calculation works
Spend is simply the pack price times the number of rips. Typical card value back is that spend multiplied by the pack's median return, the figure we measured from real sampled pulls rather than a published odds table.
If you sell back, we apply the operator's published buyback rate to that value. Where a site publishes no rate, we return no number rather than guessing one, which is the same rule the boards follow. If you ship, you keep the full card value but pay postage per card, which is why the shipping input matters more on cheap packs than expensive ones.
One honest caveat: on sites that value their own cards, the percentage is applied to the house's valuation, not a market price. A 90% buyback against a generous self-valuation can be worth less than 85% against a third-party feed. We flag which sites do this on each brand page.
Calculator FAQ
What is a good return on a rip pack?+
Anything at or above 100% means the cards that came out were worth at least what the packs cost, before cash-out. In practice most packs sit below that: it is entertainment with a house edge. What matters more is the spread between sites, and what is left after the buyback rate.
Why does the calculator use the median and not the average?+
Because one grail can carry an average and cannot carry a median. The median is what a typical session looks like; the average describes the rare person who hit. We show the mean as a footnote so you can see how jackpot-driven a pack is.
Is shipping or selling back better?+
Shipping captures the full card value but costs postage, insurance and often duties per card, so it favours higher-value pulls. Selling back is instant but takes the operator's haircut, typically 80 to 95%, applied to the operator's own valuation. The calculator lets you compare both on the same pack.
