Pokemon TCG Pocket Is Adding Indonesian, and Every Player on Earth Gets a Free Card for It
The Pokemon Company is adding Indonesian-language support to its mobile card game in January 2027, and marking the moment with a free digital promo of Pikachu in a batik shirt for every player worldwide, not just those switching languages.

The Pokemon Company will add Indonesian-language support to Pokemon TCG Pocket starting in January 2027, and to mark the update every player in the world, not only those who switch their game to Indonesian, will receive a free digital promo card of Pikachu wearing a traditional batik-patterned shirt. The update was announced by Daisuke Kobayashi, Senior Director of The Pokemon Company, at the "Pokemon Future Plans for Indonesia 2026-2027" event in Jakarta, according to Jawa Pos and Duniaku.
The numbers explain why Indonesia is getting its own language slot. Pokemon TCG Pocket has passed 200 million downloads worldwide since it launched on October 30, 2024, and more than 5.2 million of those downloads have come from Indonesia alone, Duniaku reported from Kobayashi's presentation. That single-country total is large enough on its own to justify a dedicated update, even before the free card is factored in.
What actually changes in January: both the game's interface and the text printed on the cards will become available in Indonesian, added as a selectable option inside the existing app rather than a separate release. The Pokemon Company was explicit that switching languages carries no risk to what players have already built. "Player progress and existing card collections will not be affected by this update," the company said, per Duniaku's report.
The card itself is a digital promo showing Pikachu dressed in a batik-patterned shirt, illustrated against a yellow-toned background. Jawa Pos described the design as one where "the motif on its clothing immediately catches attention" next to the game's usual artwork. Kobayashi framed the giveaway as a thank-you rather than a paid tie-in: "To celebrate the Indonesian-language game, we will give everyone a special promo card," he said, as quoted by Jawa Pos.
Neither report says exactly how the card will land in players' accounts. Duniaku's write-up notes that the distribution method, whether that means a login bonus, a redemption code, or something tied to launch week, "has not yet been disclosed and will be communicated at a future time."
For collectors used to promo cards that require importing a physical product or paying a resale markup, a free digital pull that reaches every account on the same day is unusual. What is less clear is whether this becomes a template Pokemon repeats for other languages the app does not yet support, or a one-off tied specifically to Indonesia's growth. January 2027 is the point at which that answer starts to matter.
