Pokemon's 30th Celebration Set Just Launched, and Today Is Only the First of Five Release Dates

The English 30th Celebration set went on sale today with a 199-card lineup, a brand new chromatic Future Rare tier, and 30 individually illustrated Pikachu cards, but the anniversary rollout is deliberately spread across five separate release dates running into December.

Pokemon's 30th Celebration set went live in English today, and the complete card list confirms it is one of the biggest anniversary releases the game has had. The set totals 199 cards: a 128-card main run that includes 30 individually illustrated Pikachu variants, a 33-card secret rare tier, a 30-card Classic Collection of reprinted older cards, and 8 basic energy cards rounding it out. It is built specifically to mark the franchise's 30th anniversary rather than to slot into the normal competitive rotation.

The chase list leans on the anniversary's biggest names: Mewtwo ex, Mew ex, Gengar ex, Espeon ex and Umbreon ex all get anniversary-era treatments, alongside the 30 separate Pikachu ex and Pikachu-variant cards, each with its own artist. The set also introduces a new rarity tier for English releases, a chromatic finish called Future Rare, which collectors have not had to sort for before in a mainline set. A new finish type at launch tends to scramble early pull-rate assumptions until enough packs have actually been opened to see how it distributes.

Today's wave is the entry point, not the full release. What actually went on sale on September 16 is the Elite Trainer Box at $49.99, a Poster Collection and Tech Sticker Collection at $14.99 each, a Pokemon ex Box at $21.99, a Knock Out Collection at $9.99, and a 2-Pack Blister at $9.99. None of the bigger anniversary pieces, the tins, the battle decks or the premium collections, are part of today's shelf.

Those come later, on a staggered schedule stretching to early December. Day and Night Mini Tins and a Booster Bundle follow on October 2, Espeon ex and Umbreon ex Battle Decks land October 30 at $19.99 each, Ultra-Premium Collections arrive November 6 at $179.99 alongside a $39.99 Ditto Premium Collection and $29.99 Mewtwo and Mew figure collections, and a Pokemon ex Tin plus Binder Collection close the rollout on December 4. Spreading five separate release dates across nearly three months means the anniversary hype cycle is designed to run through the holidays rather than burn out in a single week.

Target's own drop for the anniversary wave is timed separately, with the online listings set to go live at 3 a.m. Eastern today, releasing in sequence with no advance notice of what unlocks next. The usual advice for a drop built this way applies: an account with saved payment details ready beforehand cuts the checkout time that decides who gets stock before it sells out.

For anyone who strikes out at the big box retailers, the anniversary promotion is not confined to Target and Walmart. A foil Mewtwo promo card is being offered with any $15 in 30th Celebration purchases at GameStop, Best Buy, Hot Topic, Barnes and Noble, BoxLunch, Five Below and Macy's, a wider spread of stores than the anniversary line has used before. Checking those aisles is a reasonable fallback while the more obvious retailers sell through their allocation.

None of this guarantees the set holds its early energy once the anniversary attention moves on. What is different this time is the pacing: with five distinct release windows between now and December 4, the 30th Celebration line is built to keep giving collectors a reason to check back rather than dumping everything into one chaotic morning.
