PSA Reopened a Grading Line This Week, Just Not the One Everyone Is Waiting On
PSA opened a new Standard tier at $59.99 and started grading in Europe this week. The cheap, high volume Value queue that most collectors actually want back stays closed.

PSA opened a new grading tier and began accepting submissions in Europe for the first time this week, according to the company's own announcement, titled "PSA Opens New Standard Service Level and Begins Grading in Europe." Heavy.com covered the same move under the headline "PSA Adds $59.99 Grading Tier, but Value Services Remain Closed."
The new Standard tier sits at $59.99 a card, priced above PSA's cheapest historical options and aimed at collectors who want a turnaround faster than the slowest queues. What it is not is the Value tier: the lowest cost, highest volume line that PSA paused a while back and has kept closed through this reopening. For anyone sitting on a stack of commons and mid-value hits waiting for a cheap grading slot, this week's news changes nothing.
The Europe piece is the other half of the announcement. PSA grading cards without a round trip to the United States would cut weeks off turnaround and remove a chunk of international shipping cost and risk for European submitters, a group that has grown alongside interest in Pokemon and sports cards well beyond the US market.
None of this closes PSA's backlog on its own. Reopening a mid tier while the highest volume tier stays shut is a capacity decision, not a backlog solution, and it tells collectors something about where PSA thinks its constraint actually is: not total submissions, but the cheapest ones, which take the same handling time as an expensive card for a fraction of the revenue.
The thing worth watching from here is whether Value tier submissions reopen next, or whether PSA treats Standard as the new floor going forward. Either answer will matter more to the average collector than this week's launch did.
